Tuesdays are my day to cook dinner. There were 8 of us: me, my wife Hannah, Jacob and Jackie who we live with (and their 2 daughters), and our friends Renee and Daniel. I made some fancy hot dogs–homemade buns and a caramelized onion and cheese combo to go on top. For desert, I made chiffon spice cakes topped with caramelized winter fruits and custard. The early part of this process was enriched by listening to the band Metric’s album, Fantasies. I did enjoy the female vocals and there were a few–maybe 5 or 6–really dancey and fun moments on the album. On the whole I thought it was good; I would have no problem listening to it again, but it was a bit too plain for my personal tastes. Hopefully, everyone thought more highly of my dinner. Tomorrow I’ll be hearing mewithoutYou’s It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All A Dream! It’s Alright.
Album a Day Project
Dear Friends, thanks for visiting. Recently, when talking to a friend, I realized how ignorant about music I am. I’m rather versed about theory and notation, but when it comes to knowledge of bands and musicians, I feel so out-matched! So, in an attempt to remedy my knowledge void, I am committing to listening to a new album every day for 2010. I’ll post a list of my planned listening schedule so folks can follow along, and I plan to write often about how my experience is going. I imagine it will be rather humbling to admit to some of the albums I’ve never heard all the way through!
Here are my rules:
1. I must have never listened to the full album before (i.e., I may have previously heard a few songs from it)
2. I must listen to the entire album. No skipping songs or fast-forwarding, no matter how bad it may get
3. If I miss a day, I’ll make it up by listening to 2 albums on another day
Of course, it is now mid-January, so I’m allowing you into the picture in medias res. I have a schedule to keep me busy listening up until the first few days of February–the albums I’ve listed I found from “best of 2009″ lists on various websites. I could really use some recommendations though, so please comment if you have a suggestion. Today, I’m scheduled to listen to Metric’s album Fantasies.
